A growing movement working to restore nature,
strengthen rural communities and shape a wilder
future for Wales.
The Welsh Rewilding Alliance is a growing movement uniting organisations, landowners, communities and decision-makers to restore thriving ecosystems, boost rural livelihoods and celebrate Welsh landscapes and our wild nature.
We’re building the power and momentum needed to deliver rewilding in Wales, by Wales, for Wales.
There is a duty to protect and, when required, reintroduce native species while managing their impacts on people.
Nature recovery must benefit Wales, its communities, and its future.
We support better access to land and water and more democratic management and protection.
We advocate for Wales, within Wales, for people and nature.
The past is a guide but many futures are possible: we are not seeking to return to any one point.
We seek to act as a movement that gives people a stronger voice in the future of nature, and in their right to access and enjoy it. Rewilding is central to this. We want people across Wales to feel they have a real stake in the decisions made about land and sea, decisions that affect their lives, livelihoods, and local places.
By working with communities, landowners, interest groups and government, we aim to build a shared vision for our landscapes and seascapes that is confident and open about the need for vibrant and flourishing nature in our collective future.
To coordinate action that builds public support and activity that drives a major political commitment to enable rewilding at a scale new to Wales. This will ensure nature thrives, communities flourish, landowners benefit and we all have better access to wild landscapes.
Rewilding is a system approach. Part of its power is reframing our relationship with nature, recognizing we are part of nature. These changes allow nature space to lead, doing some of the heavy lifting for us.
Our latest report sets out a clear, practical vision for how rewilding can work for Wales, restoring nature while supporting communities, livelihoods and culture.
It shows how Wales can lead the way in tackling biodiversity loss and climate change through bold, collective action.
